Ottawa Withdrawal Management Centre
OWMC - CGSO - Centre de Gestion du Sevrage

Formerly known as "Ottawa Detox Centre", the OWMC is extremely important to those using drugs and alcohol who lack supportive environments and are not able to stop on their own. Staff are trained to ensure a safe withdrawal process in our non-medical setting. Although OWMC is often an entry point for treatment, it is also utilized for relapse prevention and to support individuals who are in crisis related to drugs/alcohol.

Withdrawal Management Services are available to both men and women age 16 and over. The average length of stay is 4-5 days, but this may vary according to needs and circumstances. Support, safety and care are provided by staff through the acute stages of intoxication, withdrawal and crisis. Discharge planning is available and provides an opportunity to learn about treatment options, ask questions and discuss referrals.

Nutritious meals, laundry facilities, and a warm comfortable environment are provided throughout. Clients participate in day-to-day activities and routines.

Our withdrawal management services are also able to accommodate admissions for those requiring a tapering program for prescription drugs. In most situations, tapering programs are set up through the family doctor, prior to admission.

24 hours a day, 7 days a week, the Centre welcomes all members of the substance using community. A stay at the Centre will allow you to safely withdraw from the substance you have been using in the presence of knowledgeable staff. Your stay here may be the first step in your journey to recovery.

Located at 62 Bruyère Street in the Ottawa Byward Market, the Centre is a non-medical Level 2 facility that offers withdrawal management services to men and women 16 years old and older. There are 20 beds to accommodate 15 men and 5 women at all times.

The Ottawa Withdrawal Management Centre was previously called the Ottawa Detoxification Centre or Detox. The name has been changed to reflect the work of the staff and the services provided to the community. Staff are trained to assist clients who are in a state of acute intoxification or withdrawal to manage their physical and mental health and safety.

Montfort Hospital is responsible for the OWMC since 2005, and has entrusted its management to Montfort Rennaissance Inc. The OWMC is part of the Champlain Local Health Integration Network (LHIN).
